Examiner Editorial Says No More Free Passes for McCain on First Amendment
Today's edition of The Washington Examiner features an editorial that is not likely to incite smiles among supporters of Sen. John McCain, R-AZ. The Examiner notes McCain's comment last week that he prefers "clean government" to respect for the First Amendment and observes:
"An especially virulent arrogance lurks within the person who proclaims his or her particular understanding of something so imprecise as “clean government” to be preferable to the five core freedoms without which liberty and democracy are lost. McCain will protest this reading of his statement, but the First Amendment is too precious to keep giving him a pass on this issue, as too many in the media have done for too long."
Now, when will the rest of the media get honest about McCain and the harm his campaign finance reform obsession has done to freedom of political speech in America?
